Featured Song: Cousin Stizz – Wanted To Live.
For decades, barring the occasional hit, the Boston rap scene flew under the radar, living in the perpetual shadow of its East Coast counterparts. However, with the rise of a new era of talented, ambitious, and Internet-savvy rappers, Beantown has made its presence felt – and with the likes of locals Cousin Stizz, Michael Christmas, and Gio Dee taking over the game, it seems poised to keep growing rapidly.
MONDA‘s lead-off single stands out on the basis of its smooth, sultry R&B-sampled production, Stizz’s slowed-down, raspy flow and wordplay. The sparkling track is reminiscent of the old school East Coast boom bap tracks which form the very foundation of modern rap itself. Lil Rich, who produced “Wanted To Live” and three other songs on this project (which you should definitely check out in full), effortlessly weaves a soulful sample with punchy drums, creating a dazzling instrumental to anchor Stizz’s bars – the end result is a song that’s sure to leave you vibing and wanting more.
