Featured Compilation: Feel Trip, Vol. 2.
Forty artists from around the world. Three months worth of music. One very special compilation: Feel Trip, Vol. 2.
When Night Owl Collective‘s Founder Jonny Ha$h released Feel Trip Vol. 1 to the world, it quickly helped to catapult the fledgling label from relative obscurity to the limelight. Now one of the hottest and fastest growing movements in the future beats scene, Night Owl remains the antithesis to complacent, constantly looking for ways in which to improve upon itself and push the boundaries of conventional wisdom.
Nine months removed from the release of its first iteration, Night Owl’s upcoming project could well be unprecedented in terms of both its magnitude and bold, ambitious vision.
Feel Trip Vol. 2 is truly a product of the globalized, online era in which we live, and, in many ways, marks a watershed moment in the trend towards the “Death of the Gatekeepers” (i.e., the paradigm shift in which gatekeepers, in this case major music labels, are beginning to have less and less power and influence) in the music business.
For decades, the music industry has been an oligopoly; major labels own the airways, mainstream media coverage, and music charts worldwide. Consolidations led to even less diversification over time, as the so-called “Big Six” labels were whittled down to the Big Three (Universal, Sony, and Warner). However, the small guys are fighting back, and they’re set to entirely re-shape the industry landscape as we know it today.
Feel Trip, Vol. 2 is essentially an exploration of sound; above all else, it’s a musical journey. Each preview in this teaser mix evokes an emotional response, whether that’s of elation, wonderment, nostalgia, or serenity. Listeners are transported to a faraway place of boundless imagination and atmosphere, enveloped by a warm aura of exuberance. The mix draws listeners in with a frenetic introduction before breaking down into an assortment of experimental beats of all shapes and sizes that share one common characteristic — Night Owl’s original sound.
This compilation features a wide range of artists both big and small, including, most notably: Geotheory, Audiobot, and Bentz. The artists involved have produced an eclectic soundscape which is apparent in the teaser, including lush, jazzy and rapturous synths, textured percussion, cutesy vocals, and growling bass. A project that is now a number of months in the making, Feel Trip, Vol. 2 is set for a massive release scheduled from early October through late December, with new songs appearing on Night Owl every other day.
Buckle up and get ready for the trip that awaits.
