Featured Song: lavender – luv (reed remix).
California never seems to fail when it comes to delivering brilliant artists. Such is the case with Santa Barbara natives reed and lavender, a duo that have gifted us with their respective talents. Both artists showcase an impressive amount of range; lavender has dabbled with the everything from uptempo beats to vaporwave, and reed has tried his hand at both rap production and heavy trap. But when their talents were juxtaposed on reed’s remix of “luv,” magic happened.
The track begins with lavender’s original, which has been slightly pitch-modified and placed atop a windy atmosphere. Lavender’s brilliantly simple melody powers the track over reed’s tense bassline as the song approaches its first drop. Chimes enter as the energy of the piece picks up, and soon reed has his listeners transfixed on the lyrical wizardry of his sampled poet.
Just when this section appears to be gearing up for a harder-spitting, second go round, a beautifully sung vocal sample flips the script. The unknown artist harmonizes over an extremely clean synth, providing a goosebump-inducing closer that will leave you wanting another go.
Stellar production from both artists has earned “luv” some love, and has shone a light upon some talent that deserves recognition. Listen to Lavender’s original here.
