Featured EP: Biskwiq – Buttermilk.
From the depths of Chicago comes Biskwiq. He’s been on the rise as of late, making short but sweet sample-based beats with buttery percussion and incredible attention to detail. Biskwiq is here with the release of his debut EP, “Buttermilk,” out now on Blvnt Records.
With the total runtime of the EP being less than 10 minutes long, the level of production here is cranked up to an 11. With deep and punchy drums, subtle percussion and excellent sample selection, everything Biskwiq has established as an artist and much more can be found on this EP.
The opening song, “Faucets,” establishes an idea of what you can expect going into this EP. From the piano sample to original vocals from Healy, the song eases you in to what’s to come next. From then on, the EP doesn’t take itself too seriously. Samples from movies and shows like The Eric Andre Show and Step Brothers open and close out the songs and add another level of fun and humor.
Not only that, but vocals from Drake, Chance the Rapper and Gucci Mane are sampled over the beats. The combinations of the vocals and beat on the whole project are ones that should not work at face value, but Biskwiq is able to make both elements compliment each other with his sample selection and use of pauses in the beat, among other production elements. This EP is only the beginning of Biskwiq, so don’t sleep on him.
